Questions about the Robertshaw TS-11 Gas Pilot Safety Valve
1. Is it safe to use my range?
We believe that if you check your range before each use using the precautionary measures we outlined in our notice you will be able to use your range while we try to determine exactly which units are affected. Please remember to check the website we've established (vulcanhart.com/robertshaw) for regular updates.
2. What period of time does this valve concern involve?
At this time we believe the period dates from February 2003 to August 2004.
3. If I am a Vulcan dealer and I have new ranges in my warehouse, what do I do?
Contact your customer service representative with the model and serial number
and we will replace the ranges that fall in the time frame from February 2003
to August 2004.
4. If I am an end user and I have a Vulcan range, what do I do?
First verify the date you received it coincides with the February 2003 to August
2004 dates. Second, follow the precautionary procedure we outlined. If you detect
a problem call Hobart Service at 1-888-446-2278 to schedule an inspection.
5. Which models are impacted?
148L, 160L, 160XL, 24L, 24FL, 24FTL, 36L, 36FL, 36FTL, 36SL, 36STL, 36XL, 36XTL, 481L, 481FL, 481FTL, 481SL, 481XL, 481XTL, 48L, 48FL, 48FTL, 48STL, 60L, 60FL, 60FTL, 60STL, 60XL, 60XTL, 72L, 72FL, 72FTL, 72XTL, EG260, EG36, EG36F, EG60, EG60F, VG160, VG24, VG260, VG36, VG60, VG60F, GH3/72, GH3/72C, GH30, GH30C, GH45, GH45/72, GH45/72C, GH45C,GH6, GH60, GH60/45, GH60/45C, GH60C, GH60T, GH60T45, GH60TC, GH6C, GH6T45C, GH72, GH72/45, GH72/45C, GH72C, GHCB40, GHCB40C.
6. Can the range be fixed on site or will it need to be returned?
We will be able to fix the unit at your location.
7. How long will it take Hobart Service to fix my range?
It will take approximately one to two hours for Hobart Service to replace the valve.
8. Is this valve used on other Vulcan products and are they impacted?
Yes it is used on some griddles and charbroilers. However, the chance for gas to accumulate is remote. You should verify that the pilot is lit before using these products to be on the safe side. Contact Hobart Service if you experience any issues.
9. When do you expect to ship your range product with a different pilot safety valve?
Restaurant ranges are shipping now and Heavy Duty ranges will begin shipping
with a new pilot safety valve on 9/7/04.
10. Has this situation caused injuries?
We have had several reports of operators suffering burns similar to those experienced by individuals who have been burned by an outdoor gas grill that experiences delayed ignition.
11. Is the valve used by other manufacturers of ranges?
Yes, the valve is an industry standard used by many other range manufacturers. Robertshaw has issued a memo to all their customers who purchase this valve explaining that there may be a safety issue. They are recommending that customers stop shipping products that contain the TS11 valve and quarantine existing inventory of TS11 valves in stock until further notice.
12. If I have an older range and had it serviced this year do I need to be concerned?
Yes. If the pilot safety valve was replaced during the period in question (Nov 1st, 2003 - present) there is a chance that the replacement valve may be one that has this safety issue. Use the precautionary methods outlined in our notice to check your range oven before each use and call Hobart service if any issues are noted.
