Vulcan's Power Forward Initiative

FAQ:
What is the Power Forward Initiative?

Answer:
Vulcan's Power Forward Initiative – or PFI – is a comprehensive effort to optimize Vulcan's responsiveness to the demands of its customers. In order to do this, we have organized the company into seven product-focused units, each to be run by a Vulcan Business Manager (VBM): Restaurant Ranges, Heavy Duty Ranges, Steam, Griddles & Broilers, Fryers, Ovens and Service Parts. We are implementing these changes to bring greater focus to Vulcan's operations and accelerate the introduction of new innovations to the marketplace.

FAQ
What is a VBM?

Answer:
VBM stands for Vulcan Business Manager. A VBM will oversee each unit as a "business within the Vulcan business." In other words, we've empowered the VBMs to make all decisions related to sales and marketing, customer service, research and development, operations, etc. As a result, customer response times will be significantly faster.

FAQ
Who are the VBMs?

Answer:
Restaurant Ranges: Chris Stern
Heavy Duty Ranges: Rick Galicki
Steam: Larry Lyons
Griddles & Broilers: Frank Chandler
Fryers: Paul Forrest
Ovens: Cynthia Flanery
Service Parts: Ron Arrington

FAQ
How does PFI impact Tim Murray and Jim Cullinane?

Answer:
Tim Murray will continue to serve Vulcan-Hart as its president, overseeing all seven business units. Jim Cullinane will remain vice president of sales and he will work with each of the business units to develop and implement its growth strategy.

FAQ
Who will the sales and marketing personnel be under the new PFI structure?

Answer:
Restaurant Ranges: Tracey Brill
Heavy Duty Ranges: Joe Maresca and Tim Welsh
Steam: Mike Burke
Griddles & Broilers: Patricia DeLeon
Fryers: Bruce Henderson
Ovens: Kenny Graven

FAQ
Why is Vulcan implementing PFI?

Answer:
We believe organizing the company into product-focused business units is the only way we can truly understand and respond to industry demand for our various products and free up precious resources to focus on research and development.

FAQ
Is this part of ITW's 80/20 philosophy?

Answer:
PFI is indeed aligned with ITW's 80/20 approach. As you know, ITW is dedicated to simplifying its 600-plus business units by focusing on those products being sold to key customers. In the end, 80/20 improves quality, productivity, delivery, innovation, market penetration, and, ultimately, customer satisfaction.

FAQ
How will Wolf remain differentiated from Vulcan?

Answer:
Wolf will remain as an independent brand made by Vulcan-Hart. It's important to understand that the products will be different and marketed separately. Each brand's name, logo and product design will remain distinct, as will the catalogs and Web sites.

FAQ
What does this mean to the industry?

Answer:
We’re implementing PFI because a more focused, responsive Vulcan-Hart will lead to improved products and an accelerated timeline for new innovations. We're positioning the company to respond more efficiently and effectively to the demands – both current and future – of the food service industry.

FAQ
Where do I go for more information or PFI updates?

Answer:
There are several channels we will use to communicate PFI updates: the Vulcan Web site; our booth at NAFEM; What's Cooking CDs; and Newsletters. Any additional questions should be directed to Tim Murray, Jim Cullinane or the relevant VBM.

FAQ
When will PFI be complete?

Answer:
PFI is an ongoing process. It represents how we will manage the Vulcan business going forward.

FAQ
Will I call each business unit for customer service or the main number?

Answer:
For Vulcan, customer service will remain centralized in Louisville. Call the same number you've been using. For Wolf, you will continue to call Long Beach in the near term; we do, however, anticipate transitioning customer service to Louisville later this year and will notify you well in advance.

FAQ
Where do I call for technical support under PFI?

Answer:
For Vulcan and Wolf, technical support will be handled through the same numbers you use today. By year end, each business unit will manage technical support for its products, which will dramatically improve response times.

FAQ
How do I order service parts?

Answer:
For Vulcan and Wolf, service parts orders will be handled through the same numbers you use today. We will communicate a new number for parts inquiries later this year.

FAQ
Where will credit be based under PFI?

Answer:
For Vulcan, credit will remain centralized in Troy, Ohio. We will move Wolf credit from Long Beach to Troy in the near future.

FAQ
Will Vulcan and Wolf still publish individual catalogs of products across their various categories?

Answer:
Yes. Vulcan and Wolf will publish individual catalogs that include information on all product categories. Beyond that, each VBM will be responsible for the marketing materials for their product category.

FAQ
Will the Web sites still offer information about all products?

Answer:
Yes. We are very proud of our Web sites and will continue to support them as marketing vehicles for the Vulcan and Wolf brands.

FAQ
Will dealers have the same sales rep for both Vulcan and Wolf?

Answer:
Yes. In certain markets, there are already reps that sell both Vulcan and Wolf. In areas where that’s not the case, we will be consolidating representation over the next couple of weeks.
