From: John Duerden, Executive President - Climate and Appliance Controls
To: Customers of Invensys Appliance and Climate Controls
Date: August 27, 2004
Subject: Immediate Quarantine of the Robertshaw TS-11 valve
Invensys Climate Controls will notify the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) that a product failure occurred in a commercial cooking application in which the Robertshaw TS-11 thermal safety control valve was installed. Initial investigation creates the suspicion that the TS-11 valve was involved. Over 100,000 TS-11 valves are produced each year. We are investigating; and while that is in process, we are asking customers to immediately stop shipment of products that contain the TS-11 valve and quarantine existing inventory of TS-11 in your possession.
We are taking this action because our primary concern is the safety of the people who use our products. We are giving this issue the highest priority; we are gathering the best people we can find to give the best advice we can get to understand the causes and develop a swift resolution.
We know you share our concern for safety. We ask you for your understanding and cooperation in the days ahead, when more details become available and a clear path to resolution is established. At that time we expect to be able to give you further direction on what to say to your customers who have product operating in the field. We will keep you updated as to the progress of our investigation and the procedures that will be put in place to address the issue and help you deal with the situation.
