Dear Customer,
Robertshaw Controls Company is instituting a voluntary recall of certain gas valves in the Robertshaw 7000 Series.
You are receiving this letter because you may have purchased equipment that contains a valve that is being recalled, or because a recalled valve may have been installed during repair of equipment that you currently have. We have instituted this voluntary recall because safety is our number one priority. Please read the following information carefully.
What Kinds of Equipment Use the Recalled Valves?
The 7000 Series Gas Valves that are being recalled are installed in gas appliances including: residential space heaters, wall heaters, boilers, fire places, pool heaters, infrared heaters and furnaces, and commercial heating applications such as commercial cooking appliances, fryers, commercial water heaters and poultry brooders. A full listing of affected manufacturers and equipment is available at the Robertshaw website, www.robertshaw.com. You can also call the recall hotline, 1 (800) 232-9389 for the information.
What Valves are being Recalled?
The 7000 Series valves being recalled were manufactured between February 2003 and September 2004 and have production dates beginning with code 0306 and ending with 0436.
How Do I Know if I Have Equipment that Contains a Recalled Valve?
If you purchased your gas appliance prior to February 2003, and you have not had it serviced since then, there is no possibility that you have an affected valve.
If you purchased your gas appliance after February 2003, and/or have had it serviced since February 2003, it is possible that you have an affected valve. If the valve is plainly visible on your gas appliance, and you wish to verify for yourself if you have an affected valve, you can check the date code and the model number, which are on a label on the valve. Next to the date code on the label there is a small diamond shape with the letter X inside it.
We urge you to visit the website www.robertshaw.com and review the listings of manufacturers, equipment and model numbers that are affected by the voluntary recall. You can also call the recall hotline at 1 (800) 232-9389 for the same information. If you cannot identify the manufacturer, or if you have any concerns, call the hotline for additional instructions and assistance.
What Should I Do if I have Equipment that Contains a Recalled Valve?
If you have appliances or other equipment that contain recalled valves, or you are unsure, call the hotline at 1 (800) 232-9389. Robertshaw will provide free repair or replacement of affected valves. You can register for the voluntary recall online or by phone at 1(800) 232-9389. As with any gas appliance, if you smell gas near the appliance or in the building, immediately leave the area and call your gas company or a certified gas technician to investigate the cause.
What is the Potential Hazard from these Valves?
Some 7000 Series valves have not performed as designed, permitting gas to flow when pilot lights go out, posing a risk of gas explosion and fire which could potentially result in severe personal injury and/or property damage. See attached Recall Safety Notice for additional information.
We sincerely appreciate your cooperation, and we are working as quickly as possible to repair or replace all recalled valves. Safety is our number one priority. If you have any questions about any of the information here please call our hotline number: 1 (800) 232-9389 or send an email to 7000recall@robertshaw.com.
